The Metal Community and Christianity

Metal & Christianity

A friend via Facebook asked the question today "Can you explain to me the correlation between Christian faith and the dark graphics (skulls, death etc.) so indicative of Christian as well as regular hard/heavy metal?"

A very honest and light question, with just wanting to understand the reasons on why Christian Metal and Hard Music bands using imagery of the secular realm. Mainstream Christianity needs to understand, Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation". So scripture clearly states to outreach to ALL creation.

I grew up in an era where Mainstream Christianity and Christian Metal music was divided, where most religious believers judged a believer who loved  heavy metal as of the Devil and that it was Devils music. I do agree, a majority of secular metal does represent the evil one, when it comes to sex, drugs, atheism and so on, but when Jesus said in Mark 16:15 is proof that we as believers need to pursue our passion for saving souls in the metal community.

We can have the look and the same music, but as God's new creation we don't do what they do. But, we are all sinners saved by grace. A loving God who loves all creation that he sent his son, so that WE may have life.

In Luke 6:44 and 45 declares "For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush. 45"The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart."

It doesn't matter if you are clean cut or have long hair, piercings and tattoos. We are the same body all called to different things. Even Jesus in the day was a rebel to the religious leaders of the day, for they didn't recognise he was Immanuel (which means God is with us). But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath." 3But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, 4how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? 5 Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent? 6"But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here. 7"But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the innocent 8"For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Matt 12:2 - 8.

So even Jesus was persecuted by the church of the day, but it sharing all this ALL of my friends know this. The Father loves us and loves ALL creation. We are one body and finger can't do the job of the knee, and ear for a toe. We are all called to work and serve in different ways, just like Jesus was called to serve the Father so the ultimate victory could be done. "IT IS FINISHED" says the Lord.

I pray for anyone who reads this that God's spirit be upon you and to keep fighting the good fight for Jesus, no matter what you're called to do, never relent or slow down. Pray and seek his face in Jesus name. Amen

Peace in Jesus name to everyone of you.

Christian
